The idea of a philosophical association of the Visayas and Mindanao germinated in the mind of its founder Fr. Quintin C. Terrenal, S.V.D. Through his behest, Amosa L. Velez, then Chairperson of the Department of Philosophy of the University of San Carlos wrote invitation letters to several philosophy teachers in Southern Philippines to attend an organizational meeting of a potential philosophical association. Thus on May 27, 1979 was born a community of philosophers called the Philosophical Association of the Visayas and Mindanao.
On May 1996, the first issue of the PHAVISMINDA Journal was born, thus realizing the dream of its founder, being one of the objectives of PHAVISMINDA. The past editors of the journal are Dr. Virginia L. Jayme (+), Fr. Florencio L. Lagura, S.V.D., and Dr. Orlando Ali Mandane, Jr.
